What Is the Dua for Children Protection in Islam?

The primary dua for children protection in Islam is the exact supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ recited over his grandsons Hasan and Husain (RA). Recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari 3371, it reads: U'idhu kuma bi kalimatillah at-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin wa min kulli 'aynin lammah — "I seek protection for you both in the perfect words of Allah, from every devil, every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye." This dua has two remarkable features: it invokes the complete words of Allah as a shield, and it was the same supplication Ibrahim (AS) made for his sons.

The most authenticated protection dua for children comes directly from the Sunnah:

أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

U'idhu kuma bi kalimatillah at-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin wa min kulli 'aynin lammah

The singular form — for one child — is U'idhu-ka (for a son) or U'idhu-ki (for a daughter), replacing kuma (which means "you both").

One of the most moving duas in the Quran for children comes from Surah Al-Imran 3:36, when the mother of Maryam (AS) prayed at the moment of her daughter's birth:

وَإِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Wa inni u'idhu-ha bika wa dhurriyyataha min ash-shaytani ar-rajim

"And I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah]." — (Surah Al-Imran, 3:36)

This dua is remarkable because it is not just for one child but extends to all her descendants. Allah honoured this dua by giving Maryam (AS) a unique purity and blessing. It is a prayer every mother can make for her children and grandchildren.

In Surah Ibrahim (14:35), the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) made this dua for his family's protection from idolatry — the greatest harm:

رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَٰذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الْأَصْنَامَ

Rabbi ij'al hadha al-balada aminan waj-nubnee wa baniyya an na'buda al-asnama

"My Lord, make this city secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols." — (Surah Ibrahim, 14:35)

Ibrahim (AS) did not only pray for his children's physical safety — he prayed for their iman. This is a reminder that spiritual protection is as essential as physical protection.

How to Use Ayat al-Kursi for Children

Ayat al-Kursi — the Verse of the Throne — is one of the greatest protections in the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ taught that whoever recites it before sleeping, Allah appoints a guardian over them until morning. For children, the practice is to recite it over them before they sleep, blowing softly on them as ruqyah.

The Prophet ﷺ would also recite the Mu'awwidhatain — Surah Al-Falaq (113) and Surah An-Nas (114) — and blow into his hands, then wipe over his body. Parents can extend this same protection to their children at bedtime, combining all three: Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas.
